SAADI SPECIFIC FIRE SAFETY POLICY
The following document outlines our fire procedures. It’s very important that you read, understand and apply what is contained within this policy.
WHERE ARE THE FIRE EXITS?
There are 5 routes out of the gym as detailed in the photos.
COMMUNICATION OF THE FIRE STRATEGY
At the beginning of term or the start of each holiday camp day the Gym Manager will explain the nearest Fire Exits and the Evacuation Procedure to the children before warm up.
If new members join during the term it will be up to the group coaches to ensure that all their gymnasts are aware of the Fire Exit locations and what to do if they hear the Fire Alarm. We would also recommend you do a quick reminder each week before the first piece.
WHAT TO DO IF THE FIRE ALARM SOUNDS
Stay calm and gather your gymnasts together. Please ensure all your gymnasts are accounted for. If any of the gymnasts have gone to the toilet they become the responsibility of the Duty Manager and will exit with them.
NO FIRE VISIBLE
If no fire is visible proceed calmly to the back wall of the gym and wait for instructions from the Duty Manager. The Duty Manager will join you with any children that were using the toilet and the register in order to check that all children are accounted for. If there is no fire the children will return back to training. If a risk is identified then the line will evacuate via the door next to vault.
FIRE CONFIRMED
If a fire is confirmed proceed calmly through the Vault Exit around the side of the building and CONTINUE WALKING ALONG THE WHOLE SIDE OF THE BUILDING TO THE AMBULANCE BAY. FROM HERE CROSS THE AMBULANCE BAY AND GATHER BY THE WHITE GATE FOR A HEAD COUNT. Please note that this protocol over-rides all previous ones that exited into the disabled bay.
FIRE VISIBLE:
If a fire is visible head to your nearest exit with the children in your group. If that is obstructed by fire proceed to the next nearest exit. Walk around the building in the direction of the arrows and meet in the carpark by the white gate that leads onto the field. The Duty Manager will have a register and will be checking all gymnasts are accounted for.
SHOULD I TACKLE THE FIRE?
No. As a coach your priority is to get the children out. Once outside the Duty Manager in conjunction with Everyone Active will decide if the fire should be tackled with the extinguishers.
