UNDERSTANDING THE SQUAD PATHWAY

At Saadi Gymnastics, we’re often asked how children progress into our Squad Pathway — and the honest answer is: it’s not a simple checklist. While skill development matters, it’s just one of many important factors.

✅ Progression Isn’t Just About Skills

When we consider inviting a gymnast into one of our Squad classes (General Artistic or Women’s Artistic), we look at a wide range of qualities beyond physical ability, including:

  • ✅ Ability to listen and follow instructions

  • ✅ Enthusiasm for gymnastics and willingness to try

  • ✅ Positive attitude and growth mindset

  • ✅ Focus and concentration during class

  • ✅ Emotional readiness and resilience

  • ✅ Supportive communication between coach, gymnast and parents

  • ✅ Consistency in attendance and punctuality

  • ✅ Coachability — how well a child receives feedback

  • ✅ Maturity for their age group

  • ✅ Their own enjoyment of gymnastics

🔄 A Fluid & Flexible Journey

Progression isn’t always a straight line. Children move between classes for lots of reasons — sometimes they’re ready for more challenge, sometimes they need a better fit, and sometimes life outside the gym changes their needs. We encourage a flexible mindset:

There’s no one “right” route — every child’s journey is different.

The majority of children move into Women’s Artistic Squad from the Development Class, where we begin to see the traits that suit more focused training. Occasionally, they may also come from General Artistic, though this is less common.

Entry into Beginner & Development is usually from Pre-School or early Recreational, where as General Artistic Squad often happens from the Development Class or after children thrive in Recreational sessions, showing interest, readiness, and enjoyment. Meanwhile, children in Recreational may move into Recreational Plus or Advanced for more challenge and time to grow.

Because gymnastics is a young-entry sport, most movement toward the Squad Pathway happens at an early age — not necessarily from Advanced Recreational, but from early-stage structured programs.

We view these pathways as adaptable. Children may move up, down, or sideways depending on what’s right for them at a given time — and that’s okay. Our goal is always to place them in the class where they’ll thrive and #ENJOYTHEJOURNEY
